Valkenburg cloak-bag

In Valkenburg Z.H., the Netherlands, an almost complete piece of leather has been found. It shape is almost square and stitching marks are clearly visible. Together with this some other leather parts which might have come from the same bag has been recovered. The leather piece measured 64 x 64 cm, thereby giving an product of 64 x 29 cm.

My interpretation is that is could well have been a cloak-bag (my paenula military cloak fits into the bag perfectly). I do like the ‘flat’ shape very well, as it will fit perfectly behind my cavalry saddle and stays in place easily.
