On the Italian coast near Comacchio a Augustean shipwreck has been found. Inside the ship two almost complete bags have survived. These finds are rather unique, as they represent the rare finds of bigger bags with a shoulder carrying girth. Most of the roman bags in the archeological record are of a so called ‘drawstring’ construction.
One of the find from Commachio measures about 30 x 29 x 7 cm and is fairly common in Roman re-enactment. Over the years I’ve made several copies in various color en size variations.
