About

This website is made and maintained by Jurjen Draaisma. I am a seasoned Roman re-enactor living in the Nijmegen area in the Netherlands. Since 2000 i’m active reacreating the ancient past and specialised in the Roman era. Once started with a small civilian outfit I soon got involved as a legionair from the first century AD. Later a dozen impressions followed: secutor (gladiator), batavian auxiliar, 4rd century late Roman infantry, centurion. In the recent years I’ve specialised on two main subjects: (Roman) leather crafts and Roman cavalry (for which I founded the ALA I Batavorum).

At this website I will showcase some of the many recreations of Roman leatherwork I’ve made over the years. I hope it gives a nice overview on Roman leatherwork, but remember, I’m not a archeologist nor leatherworker by proffesion.

Besides recreating these items in my workshop I am often taking part in living history events with both my cavalry group as well with my leatherworking display. If you would like me to join your event, you’re always welcome to send me an email.
